I want to write
a poem, a song I sing
when I can’t say a word.
I want to write with the rules
I make and by the rules of my thoughts:
fluid as cold water
and shape-shifting like fire
and mellow as the breeze
or as strong as a gust.
I want to write
a song to sing tonight,
but without accompaniments.
I’ll read it aloud in the silence
in the tunes of the waves
gently hitting the shores.
The poem rolls
and bubbles.
The poem ebbs.
